The 2026 NFL Draft is just 48 hours away, and the city of Pittsburgh is bracing for what experts are calling one of the most unpredictable first rounds in recent memory. While the first overall pick seems written in stone, the rest of the board is a masterclass in “Best Player Available” logic, thanks to a draft class that is top-heavy in safeties, linebackers, and offensive tackles rather than the usual edge-rusher frenzy.

Here is your updated 2026 First Round Mock Draft and Preview.

The Top 10: Quarterbacks & Anchors

Pick Team Player Pos School Scouting Note
1 Raiders Fernando Mendoza QB Indiana The “Heisman” hero. Mendoza is the only blue-chip QB in this class and the reason Vegas didn’t chase a veteran in March.
2 Jets Francis Mauigoa OT Miami With Aaron Rodgers entering his twilight at 42, the Jets’ priority is a literal human shield. Mauigoa allowed 0 sacks in his final 12 games.
3 Cardinals Caleb Downs S Ohio St Arizona is desperate for a defensive identity. Downs is a “generational” safety prospect who can play single-high or in the box.
4 Titans Spencer Fano OT Utah Tennessee needs to know if Will Levis is the guy; they can’t do that if he’s on his back. Fano is a Day 1 starter at LT.
5 Giants Sonny Styles LB Ohio St A hybrid freak. Styles can cover TEs and blitz like an edge. The Giants start their double-dip in the top 10 with a defensive cornerstone.
6 Browns Arvell Reese LB Ohio St Cleveland’s defense is aging. Reese brings modern speed to the middle of the field to pair with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
7 Commanders Rueben Bain Jr. EDGE Miami Jayden Daniels needs a defense that can get him the ball back. Bain is a refined technician who wins with leverage and power.
8 Saints Jeremiyah Love RB Notre Dame The Alvin Kamara era is winding down. Love is a home-run hitter with elite receiving traits—perfect for the Saints’ system.
9 Chiefs Mansoor Delane CB LSU After trading Trent McDuffie to the Rams, KC needs a lockdown corner. Delane has the “LSU DBU” pedigree and length to excel.
10 Giants Jordyn Tyson WR ASU (Via CIN) The Giants use their second pick to get Jalen Hyatt a running mate. Tyson is a vertical threat who led the Pac-12 in contested catches.

Mid-Round “Value” Selections (11–20)

This is where the draft gets “funky.” With the premium tackles and Mendoza gone, teams are looking at defensive depth and secondary help.

  • 11. Miami Dolphins: Vega Ioane (IOL, Penn State) – Protecting Tua is the only goal. Ioane is a “people mover” at guard.

  • 12. Dallas Cowboys: Kayden McDonald (DL, Ohio State) – Dallas needs a space-eater next to Mazi Smith. McDonald is 315 lbs of pure disruption.

  • 13. LA Rams (via ATL): Dillon Thieneman (S, Oregon) – The Rams traded into this spot to secure a ballhawk. Thieneman had 7 INTs last year.

  • 14. Baltimore Ravens: David Bailey (EDGE, Texas Tech) – Classic Ravens pick. A high-motor pass rusher who fits their 3-4 scheme perfectly.

  • 15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jermod McCoy (CB, Tennessee) – Rebuilding the secondary after a disappointing defensive season in 2025.

  • 16. NY Jets (via IND): Kenyon Sadiq (TE, Oregon) – The Jets double up on offense for Rodgers. Sadiq is a “big receiver” hybrid.

  • 17. Detroit Lions: Olaivavega Ioane (OG, Penn State) – The Lions continue to invest in the trenches to keep Jared Goff clean.

  • 18. Minnesota Vikings: Malachi Lawrence (EDGE, UCF) – A raw but explosive pass rusher to bolster the Brian Flores “chaos” defense.

  • 19. Carolina Panthers: Carnell Tate (WR, Ohio State) – Bryce Young needs more than just one reliable target. Tate is a route-running technician.

  • 20. Dallas Cowboys (via GB): Zion Young (EDGE, Missouri) – Using their extra pick to reload the pass rush after losing veteran depth in free agency.

The Late First Round (21–32)

  • 21. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kadyn Proctor (OT, Alabama) – Keeping the local fans happy by drafting a mountain of a man to anchor the line.

  • 25. Chicago Bears: Cashius Howell (EDGE, Texas A&M) – The Bears finally get their “killer” at DE. Howell is a speed-to-power specialist.

  • 29. Kansas City Chiefs (via LAR): T.J. Parker (EDGE, Clemson) – Using their second 1st-rounder to address the defensive line after focusing on CB at #9.

  • 31. New England Patriots: Fernando Mendoza’s Backup? Just kidding. The Pats are likely targeting Caleb Lomu (OT, Utah) to start the post-Jacoby Brissett era with protection.

Key Storylines to Watch

  1. The Trade-Down Fever: According to league insiders (including Albert Breer), picks 3 through 9 are all actively being shopped. Teams like the Cardinals and Titans are desperate to accumulate 2027 capital.

  2. The “Safety” Draft: It is rare to see two safeties (Downs, Thieneman) in the top 15, but this class is an anomaly. If you need a backend playmaker, this is the year.

  3. The Broncos’ Absence: Denver won’t pick until #62 after trading their first-rounder for WR Jaylen Waddle. They’ll be watching from the sidelines as their rivals reload.

The NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 23, at 8:00 PM ET on ESPN/ABC
