Thursday Night Football sends the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into AT&T Stadium to face the Dallas Cowboys, and while the headline storyline is an undrafted rookie quarterback making his second career start, the fantasy stakes run through Dallas. CeeDee Lamb is coming off a 189-yard eruption, Javonte Williams just scored three touchdowns on modest volume, and the Cowboys offensive line could get a significant boost back up front. Here is what matters for Week 5 lineups.

Jalon Daniels Gets Another Look Under Center

Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb in Tampa Bay’s Week 3 loss to the Vikings, and head coach Todd Bowles said at the time he expected Mayfield to miss a minimum of three weeks. That timeline keeps the undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels in the starting role for a second straight week. Daniels made his first career start in Tampa Bay’s 17-14 Week 4 loss to the Packers, completing 19 of 27 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions, while adding 55 rushing yards on the ground. Bowles confirmed Daniels will start again on Thursday in Dallas.

For fantasy purposes, Daniels is a deep-league streaming option at best. The rushing production gives him a workable floor in superflex and rushing-QB formats, but the two interceptions in his debut and a short week to prepare against a Dallas defense that will see him on tape for the first time make him a tough sell outside of desperate QB2 situations.

CeeDee Lamb Is a Must-Start Lock

Lamb was a full practice participant on both Monday and Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s game, a clean bill of health after he torched the Texans for 189 receiving yards and a touchdown in Dallas’s 34-30 win in Week 4. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 335 yards and a score in that same game, and with Lamb fully healthy and drawing the bulk of Dallas’s target share, he is as safe a start as exists on this slate regardless of opponent or short-week scheduling. Managers who have been riding out a midseason slump with Lamb can exhale.

Javonte Williams Keeps Finding the End Zone

Williams is the clearest buy-low, sell-high paradox in fantasy right now. His Week 4 line against Houston was 19 carries for just 62 yards, a modest 3.3 yards per attempt, but he turned three of those runs into touchdowns, including an eight-yard score that cut a two-touchdown deficit in half. He added five catches on five targets for 21 yards. Through four games, Williams has 231 rushing yards and five total touchdowns on 62 carries, plus 15 catches for 77 yards and a receiving score on 17 targets. The efficiency numbers are shaky, but the Cowboys are funneling goal-line work directly through him, and volume plus role in a high-scoring Dallas offense outweighs a so-so per-carry average. He remains a weekly must-start.

One wrinkle to watch: Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith, who had thumb surgery and has been on injured reserve since early September, opened his 21-day practice window on Monday and told reporters a return against Tampa Bay this week is possible, though not guaranteed on the short turnaround. If Smith is active Thursday, it strengthens a Dallas offensive line that has had to shuffle pieces and gives both Prescott and Williams a cleaner path to repeat their Week 4 production.

What It Means for Tampa Bay’s Skill Players

Mike Evans remains the clear top target in Tampa Bay’s passing game, but his fantasy outlook is tied directly to how comfortable Daniels looks in a hostile, short-week road environment. Treat Evans as a boom-or-bust WR2 this week rather than a locked-in starter. Running back Bucky Irving worked his way off Tampa Bay’s injury report by the end of Week 4 after dealing with a foot and glute issue, which is an encouraging sign, though his exact workload Thursday is worth confirming on the final injury report before kickoff given how often his practice status has fluctuated this season.

Week 5 Thursday Night Start or Sit Calls

  • Start with confidence: CeeDee Lamb (full health, elite target volume) and Javonte Williams (goal-line role, three touchdowns last week).
  • Start, trust the volume over efficiency: Dak Prescott, who should keep throwing plenty against a Tampa Bay defense that will be without its top offensive playmaker’s counterpart, Mayfield, on the other sideline distorting game script.
  • Streaming option only in deep or rushing-friendly formats: Jalon Daniels, who offers a rushing floor but carries real turnover risk on a short week.
  • Confirm before kickoff: Bucky Irving’s workload, given his up-and-down practice status this season, and whether Tyler Smith suits up for Dallas up front.
  • Boom-or-bust: Mike Evans, whose fantasy ceiling depends on how Daniels handles his second career start on the road.

This is a game where the fantasy story has shifted away from the quarterback matchup and toward Dallas’s two offensive stars doing what they have done all season: Lamb winning on volume and explosiveness, and Williams scoring regardless of how many yards he piles up in between the goal line looks. Build Thursday lineups around both of them with confidence.
