San Francisco is bringing Khalil Herbert back. The 49ers signed the veteran running back to a one-year deal Thursday and placed Patrick Taylor Jr. on injured reserve — three days after releasing Herbert, who had originally signed with the club earlier this month. Herbert flashed in his preseason look with six carries for 18 yards and two catches for 35 yards out of the backfield. DFS note: Taylor’s IR trip clears a real path to change-of-pace touches in a Shanahan offense that has a long history of turning depth backs into salary-relief plays. Watch the snap counts in the preseason finale before you commit. (source: 49ers.com official release, NBC Sports Pro Football Talk, Yahoo Sports, Niners Nation)
